Shannan Ferry is an Emmy-nominated journalist who currently works an Anchor/Reporter at NY1 News in New York City. She interned at NY1 in 2012, and returned in 2014 as a reporter. When Shannan is not behind the anchor desk, she's covering stories across the city ranging from breaking news to feature stories. Shannan has been on the front lines reporting in the field since the start of the pandemic. She also covered massive demonstrations following the death of George Floyd for hours of continuous live coverage nightly for several months. In 2016, Shannan covered the murder of Karina Vetrano extensively, and appeared nationally on HLN's 'On the Story with Erica Hill' to discuss it. Shannan also fills for traffic reports on NY1.
Prior to NY1, Shannan worked as a College Associate for Fox News Channel where she produced stories for their website. She was also the recipient of the 2013 Fox News College Challenge, a nationwide contest awarding a scholarship and internship to the top college newscasters. After winning this award, Shannan appeared on Fox & Friends, as well as a television promotion about the contest which ran on the channel twice a day for several months. Shannan graduated from Hofstra University magna cum laude in 2014, where she studied broadcast journalism and political science. During her time at Hofstra, she covered national events including the 2012 Republican National Convention and 2012 Presidential Debate. She was heavily involved in the school's radio station WRHU-FM where she served as the station manager. She also anchored for the school's television show Hofstra Today. Shannan won several awards as a student including honors from The Alliance for Women in Media, RTDNF, Press Club of Long Island, Women's Press Club of New York State, Society of Professional Journalists and The Fair Media Council. She graduated from St. Francis Preparatory High School in 2010.
Shannan loves the unpredictability and versatility of reporting. Everyday presents a new challenge and the opportunity to quickly become an expert on a story so that it can be shared with the viewers. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She has a younger brother Vincent. Her parents raised her in Queens and she now lives in Manhattan.
